The architect for the new sun room made some suggestions for rearranging the kitchen. Though we rejected her suggestions, we did in fact realize that we had an opportunity to add much needed counter space as well as storage.
The Original Kitchen
The original kitchen was cramped, short on counter space and poorly lit. It was literally a one person kitchen. The refrigerator was placed at a 45 degree angle in front of a false wall. The dishwasher, placed up 12″ from the floor was its only really admirable feature.

The New Kitchen
With the old door to the breakfast nook closed up in favor of a new wider door to the left, we could move the refrigerator and open up the resulting L to the left of the wall oven for more counter and storage. A trip to Home Depot for a consult in laying out new base cabinets and wall units lead to several innovations we wouldn’t have thought of. After a bid from the contractor who is working on the new sunroom was out of our budget Mark and Karen did all of the work, new lighting, install cabinets, and paint. Karen got her purple walls.
Yet to be completed is the finish work around the doorway and refinishing the floor.
