Karen and Mark visited with Phil Pierce at Homeowners Rehab to talk about how to buy a house, mortgages, etc. On the way out the door he insisted that we look at this triple-decker just down the street. They had been trying to get a family involved in this weat-equity rehab project to no avail. After looking at it and considering that we only had to put labor in, it seemed like a great idea. The two rental apartments would make the house very affordable. And, we could customize some of the elements in the third floor owners apartment.
Ed Orton, then living in Cambridge, was dragged over to take a look. It was a rainy day. On entering the front door, water cascading down from a hole in the roof, Ed said, “Don’t you think you should think about this a bit?”
