Mark begins work at MIT Biomechanics Lab

MIT 77 Mass Ave. Cambridge
My lab was in building 3 off the Infinite Corridor.

Staff engineer in biomechanics lab in Building 3. Worked in lab supporting research on artificial hips. Hired to be the interface between the research PhDs and outside vendors. He loved to walk through the subterranean tunnels lining the buildings to the MIT machine shop where he always found kindred spirits.

He also managed the lab’s DEC VAX 11/780 computer system. This was used to acquire and process data from force plates in the floor and video cameras capturing data for gate analysis.

Ultimately Mark found the politics of working in an academic setting stifling and boring. Though he did take advantage of the library at the MIT Architecture department useful in designing the new stairway to the third floor at 52 Kinnaird St. In addition he read up on the latest on vapor barriers and insulation technologies.

In the long run the presence on Mark’s resume of the words, “Staff Engineer” and “MIT” proved to be door openers.
